Downspout Gutter Trellis FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the trellis attached to the downspout?
- Zinc-coated self drilling screws are screwed through the brackets and into the downspout
- Adjustable stainless steel cableties accommodate most standard downspout sizes and provide a stable, weather-resistant connection.
What materials are the trellises made from?
Our trellises are constructed from High-Density-Polyethylene (HDPE) mesh that's designed to withstand all weather conditions. The mesh provides excellent rust resistance and maintains its appearance for years.
Will this work with my downspout size?
Our trellises are designed to fit most standard residential downspouts, including 2x3 inch and 3x4 inch rectangular downspouts, as well as 3-inch and 4-inch round downspouts. If you're unsure about compatibility, please contact us with your downspout measurements.
How much weight can the trellis support?
Each trellis can safely support up to 47 pounds of plant material when properly installed. This is sufficient for most climbing plants, vegetables, and flowering vines.
Is installation difficult?
Not at all!
Step 1
1. Mount the top wood block (the one with the attached screw) to the gutter just under the seam as shown, making sure the (2) button head fasteners are against the downspout.

Step 2
2.Unroll the mesh, remove the laced -in screw & the (2) button head fasteners from the 2nd wood block (careful, the button head fasteners are meant to be removable and may fall out).
Partially install the long screw into the block, making sure the 2 button head fasteners are against the downspout.
.

Step 3
3. Pull the 2nd block until mesh is straight, then, with a power screwdriver, start the screw on slight angle until screw starts to bite

Step 4
4. Rotate block so the mesh is tight, then completely drive screw in tight.
Trim any excess loose mesh with household scissors (ie if you needed to shorten the trellis)
Complete installation instructions are included with every purchase.
What plants work best with these trellises?
Our trellises are perfect for clematis, morning glories, mandevilla, and many other climbing plants. The sturdy construction supports both annual and perennial climbers.
Will screwing into my downspout hinder it's functionality?
No, the screws included are self-drilling for leak-proof holes.
Note that when the downspout was originally mounted on this house, screws secured the downspout (red arrow) onto the house also indicating that screwing into the downspout doesn't hinder it.
